Common TEFA Questions

How much is the standard TEFA award for 2026-27?

The official TEFA site says participating private school students receive $10,474 for the 2026-27 school year.

Does a diagnosis alone qualify a student for up to $30,000?

No. According to the official TEFA special education funding guidance, awarded students in participating private schools may receive up to $30,000 when they have a current IEP on file with the state. A diagnosis, 504 plan, or SSI/SSDI determination does not by itself unlock the increased amount.

When do TEFA funds get deposited?

The official schedule for participating private school students is 25% on July 1, 25% on October 1, and the remaining 50% on February 1.

Are you the official TEFA program?

No. Texas TEFA Tutoring is not a government agency and does not determine awards. Families should use the official Texas TEFA site and Odyssey workflow for current rules and account actions.
